Chivalry is Dead – Dwarves

Published by naughtyjester on

In this series of blog posts, we’re going to focus on each race one by one. Their strengths, their weaknesses, and what makes them play differently from the others.

Dwarves

Dwarves. What can you say about these guys? They’re tough. Not the fastest chariot team out there but certainly the hardest to hit and to take down. This means for each point of defense the decrease in damage taken is significant and dwarves start out high. They’re the only. Their additional ability to add defenses a few times per game also makes it that much harder. These guys just want to make it to the end. If they need to go through you do that, that’s just the way it’s going to go.

Team Ability

Use the Shield!

Dwarves can add +2 to their defense. 3 Uses per game.

An attack roll is one chariot’s attack damage minus the other chariot’s defense score. Any overage gets applied to the defender. Their racial ability allows them after the rolls have been made to decrease any damage but another 2 points. That can effectively negate a complete attack. Add to this that the effect can be applied to any of their defenses (driver, animal, chariot) and lasts until the end of the turn that gives them 3 rounds of decreased damage. They’re tough to kill.

Team Perks

Smite

Smite allows you to stun opponents that are nearby. This stops them from using their abilities for the turn.

Rams

Your mounts can Ram enemy chariots

Ok, the rules here aren’t quite ready for release but here’s the high level. This adds an ability for your chariot to ram another chariot from the back (or from the side in the case of that middle section of the map). Unlike a collision you don’t take damage and you get some extra damage added on as well.

Wallup!

If you slam into the side of a chariot and roll and 8 you can push the enemy to the side. This widens that attack to a roll of 7 or 8.

Strategy

The Dwarves’ approach to race is that slow and steady wins the race. They’re tough to eliminate but not the fastest chariot on the course. Now, whether that’s because of their thick hides, better armor, or because they’ve been drinking enough, they just don’t feel pain is anyone’s guess but the rest is the same.
